Freya Robbins: You’re watching this and you’re saying to yourself, “What’s a wife entitled to?” My response to that is, what’s a wife and what’s a husband entitled to? Because in mediation, we’re working with two people. I’m a neutral party, and my job is really to help both of you.
Speaker 2: The role that you take on in marriage and divorce, whether it is as a husband or a wife or other, does not entitle you to certain things. The law is there to protect the both of you, and one of the great things about mediation is that the two of you together get to decide what you believe to be fair and equitable. You’ll feel more empowered to make decisions that are best for your situation rather than leaving it to a judge to decide who doesn’t understand your family needs.
Freya Robbins: One of the things that sets me apart from other mediators is that I’m also what we call a certified divorce financial analyst. It’s a specialty degree that helps me help you with the financial piece of it, because after all, once the emotional decision has been made to dissolve a marriage, oftentimes it becomes very much a financial transaction. Obviously, with the exception of our children, the finances become very important.
