Divorce Mediation in Sarasota, Florida
Why Choose Mediation Over Hiring Attorneys?
When you work with lawyers, you’re paying for two or more professionals. When you go to meditation with attorneys, you will pay for the services of several professionals, two attorneys, a forensic accountant, mediator, and sometimes a mental health counselor if there is a dispute about children and who they will live with.
But if you work with us, you’ll be paying for a mediator with extra financial certifications. If you are considering separation or divorce and have questions, check out our blog post The Hardest Phase of Divorce for more insight.

What Is Divorce Mediation? Common Questions Answered
If you are thinking about divorce, you are likely experiencing anger, hurt feelings and despair, and you probably have a lot of questions. These are some of the most common questions we are asked.
What is Divorce Mediation? (Florida Basics)
“Mediation” is the process of working with a trained, neutral third party, in a private setting. The mediator is hired by the couple, to empower them to resolve their conflicts and come to a resolution, without litigation, that is healthy for both spouses and for any minor children.
The objective of divorce mediation is to maintain the integrity of the family relationship, reduce the emotional and financial stress of divorce, and achieve resolution so you can both move on with your lives.
“There was no reconciliation possible, but we both agreed on going to Freya. It was less expensive, and she got everything done in nine hours or less—she is that good! She made both of us feel comfortable, and Freya’s Christian values also helped with the process.
Freya is charming with excellent credentials and was always professional. She listened and respected our time, and just wanted to help us get this done. It was a matter of mutual respect; she made it happen and made it fair. I highly recommend her.” Autumn McConnell

What is the financial cost of mediation?
When you work with lawyers, you are paying for two professionals. When you go to meditation with attorneys, you will pay for the services of at least three professionals or more as many lawyers require the involvement of forensic accountants. But if you work with Zollinger Mediation, you’ll be paying for one professional.
Because every divorce mediation case is different, we do not utilize any “prepackaged” mediation format. Sessions can be short or long, ranging from one to three hours, on any number of topics such as:
- Financial planning
- Long term planning and budgeting
- Differences of opinion
- How to divide things equally
- What to do with the house
- Exit strategies for businesses
- Life/Health Insurance
- Estate Planning
- Foreclosures
- Bankruptcy
How long is the divorce process with a mediator?
With a mediator, the divorce process takes an average of 4 to 6 months, depending on the complexity of the couple’s situation. With attorneys, the average length of the process is 1 to 2 years or longer.
Is Divorce Mediation Confidential in Florida?
Mediation is private and privileged. Unlike litigation, the discussions that take place in mediation are confidential and are not a matter of public record.

How Divorce Mediation Works in Florida
Divorce mediation is an affordable alternative to using attorneys to litigate a divorce.
At Zollinger Mediation, we use a method that allows the parties to mediate an agreement with the guidance of a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator as a neutral party, hired by the couple.
